Polenaktion

The Polenaktion or ‘Polish Action’ occurred on 28 and 29 October 1938 when German authorities forcibly expelled Polish Jewish citizens who were living in the Germany. Around 17,000 Jews who had Polish citizenship, but were living in Germany or Austria (which had been annexed by Germany in March 1938) were arrested in their homes then taken to the border. From there, they were forced to cross onto Polish soil.
